Pricing & fees

Every charge AddOnBoss adds is worked out on the server from your saved settings, never from anything the browser sends, and every figure follows your shop’s tax display setting. This page explains how the total is built.

The base plus the choices

The price a customer sees is the product’s price plus what they choose. So set the product’s price to your everyday version and let dearer choices add from there. On a variable product the base is the chosen variation’s price, and the options add to that.

Each option’s price shows on its own chip as a whole price where that reads best (“4XL is £26”), or as a surcharge (“+£4”) where a product carries several priced sets and a whole price on each would just repeat the base. A set where customers pick several always states surcharges, because stacked picks cannot each promise a whole total. Beneath the options, a receipt itemises the product and each charged choice above a plain Total, updating with every pick.

How a fee behaves with quantity

The product itself can also get cheaper at volume with quantity discounts: typed price breaks that every line of the product in the cart counts toward.

A field or option fee is one of a few kinds, and quantity treats each differently:

• Once for the order. A flat charge added once to the line. Buying five does not multiply it. A setup or artwork fee.
• Per item. Added to every unit, so buying five adds it five times. Gift wrapping each piece.
• Per letter. For a text field, the fee times the number of characters typed, applied per item. A longer engraving costs more.
• A percentage. A fee worked out as a share of the price, where an add-on is priced relative to the product rather than as a flat figure.

Recalculating never compounds

WooCommerce recalculates the cart at several points. AddOnBoss adds each fee once and holds it steady across recalculations, so a per-item fee that should be £3 stays £3, never quietly doubling.

A choice can never make a line cheaper than nothing

An option can carry a reduction as well as a surcharge, but a line can never go below zero. If a set of reductions would take a line negative, it is floored at zero, so a discount can never turn into money owed to the customer.

Tax

Every price, on the chip, in the running total, on the cart line and on the order, follows your shop’s tax display setting, inclusive or exclusive, exactly as your plain products do. AddOnBoss adds the raw charge and lets WooCommerce apply tax natively, so the options path and your ordinary products always agree. The quantity grid can additionally be set to show its cell prices with or without tax for trade customers.

Where the figures come from

Charges resolve from your saved sets and fields on the server when the product is added to the basket. A price the browser shows is only a preview of that same calculation; the figure that reaches the cart is the server’s. So a customer cannot tamper with a price, and a choice hidden by a conditional rule is never charged even if its value is submitted.
