Options on variable products

Pro feature

Adding option sets and fields on top of variable products is part of AddOnBoss Pro. Free covers option sets on simple products.

A variable product already has variations that own its colour, size, stock and photos. AddOnBoss does not replace that. It adds option sets and fields as extras on top, so the variation still does its job and the options price add-ons a variation cannot express.

Use variations for the choices that need their own stock or SKU, the size run you count in the warehouse. Add option sets and fields for the extras that do not: a personalisation line, a finish, gift wrapping, a rush fee. Keeping the two apart means you are not generating a variation for every combination of every add-on.

Attach option sets and add fields on the Product Options panel exactly as you would on a simple product. On the storefront the customer picks a variation first, and the option prices then add to it. The running total reflects the chosen variation plus the extras.

A field can apply to only some variations. A “Sleeve length” line can show for the long-sleeve variation and stay inert for the rest, so a customer never sees a field that does not apply to what they are buying. Leave the restriction empty and the field applies to every variation. See custom fields.

The variation still needs a price

As on any variable product, a variation with no price is not purchasable, so its Add to cart area and the options with it do not show. Price the variations as usual and the extras appear once a variation is chosen.
