Layouts & which to use

There are two separate choices, both on the Bundle Display tab:

  1. Layout is the whole-page layout: List, Grid, Step by step, or Configurator.
  2. Show repeated items as is how a product with choices is filled in when a customer buys more than one of it. The choices are the Quantity grid (Pro), Stacked, Compact cards and Table.

They are independent, so you can mix them, for example a List page with a Quantity grid inside one item.

See them

Prefer to look before you choose? Layouts in pictures shows every option with a screenshot and the exact setting that produces it.

Every item is a card, stacked down the page, each with its photo, options and price. The customer sees the whole bundle at once. Best for most bundles, especially short ones.

The same cards arranged side by side in a responsive grid. Good when a bundle has several items and you want them to feel like a set the customer scans rather than a long scroll.

One item in focus at a time, with numbered steps, green ticks, Back and Next buttons and free jumping between steps. The running total stays visible throughout, and the customer lands on the first incomplete step (handy for edit-from-cart and shared links). Best for long or involved builds like a PC configurator, where showing everything at once would overwhelm. Without the Builder, Step by step falls back to List.

A full-page, two-pane builder: the choices on one side, a live summary and running total that stay in view on the other. Rich option cards show each choice with its picture and the price difference it makes, so a customer building something involved always sees where they are and what it costs. Best for premium, considered purchases, a PC build, a bike, a made-to-order package, where the build itself is part of the experience. Like Step by step, it falls back to List without the Builder.

Show repeated items as: a product bought in quantity

Section titled “Show repeated items as: a product bought in quantity”

This setting changes a product with choices when a customer buys more than one of it. The choices can be WooCommerce variations or AddOnBoss option sets. A product with no choices, and a slot that sells one unit, always look the same. It also applies inside a choice slot, so whichever product the customer picks is shown the way you chose.

In a box with the Gallery, Accordion or Order pad look, it decides what each product opens to. Table opens the table; any other choice opens the quantity grid. Before 6.0.0 these looks always opened the table, so set Table to keep a box as it was. A box with the Simple look does not use it.

The customer taps a colour and types how many of each size, building a bulk run like five small navy plus five large red in one grid, instead of configuring ten units one at a time. Ideal for workwear, team kit and any size run. See Quantity grid.

With the Builder, a new bundle opens on the Quantity grid. A bundle you built before 6.0.0 keeps the choice it had.

One card per unit, down the page. Clear and familiar, and what a new bundle opens on without the Builder.

A tidy card per unit with the fields wrapping neatly and no sideways scrolling. The best choice when each unit is personalised (a name, a number, a position), because every unit has room for its own details.

One compact row per unit, attributes as columns. A spreadsheet-style view for people who like to fill a grid quickly. With many columns the row scrolls sideways, so Compact cards is usually the friendlier choice.

Tick Link items to their product pages on the Bundle Display tab and a small arrow appears beside each item’s name. It opens the product’s own page in a new tab, so customers can check ingredients, size guides or reviews without losing the bundle they are building. Names stay plain text, so nobody navigates away by accident, and choice cards are never links (clicking those selects). Off by default.

WooCommerce puts the add-to-cart area in the column beside the product details, which is roughly a third of the page. That is the right size for a price and a button, and a tight fit for a bundle with a lot to choose from: on a wide screen a pool of a dozen products can end up three narrow columns deep with most of the page empty beside it.

Where items appear on the Bundle Display tab offers a second option:

  • With the product details (default): the layout every bundle has had. Nothing moves.
  • Below, across the full page: the items take the whole content width, underneath the product details.

Only the items move. The photo, title, price and description keep their usual place, so the top of the page reads exactly as it did. A twelve-product pool that needed four rows in the column typically fits in two across the full width, and the photos are large enough to choose by.

Worth switching on when your pool runs past about eight products, or when the choices are visual and the customer is picking by how something looks. Leave it alone for a short fixed bundle: two or three items look better beside the details than stretched across the page.

Switching back is the same menu, and no setting inside the bundle changes either way.

  • All the same: configure the first unit, and every other unit follows it: colour, size, and any drop-down or tick-box personalisation such as branding or position. Unique fields like names stay per unit, so for a team order you set one up, then just type each name. Switch the toggle off afterwards and the copied selections stay in place, ready for you to adjust a single unit.
  • Personalise all: fields asked once for the whole item, such as one logo for the run, sit at the foot of the item, after every unit’s colour and size. Customers choose the items first, then personalise them. All the same stays at the top. See personalisation.
Your store Page layout Show repeated items as
A small fixed pack (2 to 3 items) List Stacked
A bundle with many items to scan Grid Stacked
A long or complex configurator Step by step Pro Stacked or Compact cards
A premium, considered build (PC, bike, made-to-order) Configurator Pro Stacked or Compact cards
Personalised team kit (names per unit) List or Grid Compact cards
A bulk size run (workwear, 10+ split across sizes) List Quantity grid Pro
Fast spreadsheet-style entry List Table
Rule of thumb

Pick the page layout for how the bundle reads as a whole, then pick Show repeated items as for how a single repeated item is filled in. When in doubt, leave both as a new bundle opens: List, and the Quantity grid with the Builder or Stacked without it. They suit most bundles.

A bundle you already have keeps its choices until you change them. A new bundle opens on List and, with the Builder, on the Quantity grid.
